WELCOME TO OUR FAMILY AT FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH!

It turns out I enjoy getting up early. My internal clock still wakes me at 6:00 am and once up, I have coffee and prayers. I enjoy this time as long as Ron and our dog, George Washington, are still sleeping. I find if I keep my ritual, I can take care of issues that arise during the day. I have set a time on my iPad from 4-9 pm as "Chill" and then switches to "Do Not Disturb". While praying, I read the scriptures, starting with the readings for Sunday so I can meditate on them for a message. I have been reading Micah, as God and the people are quite frustrated with each other.

In Micah Chapter 6, Micah acts as a mediator between God and the ungrateful people. The first five verses God gives the people a summary of what has been done for them..."I brought you out of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of slavery." The people respond from verses six-seven. One can read the frustration in the argument. "Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression..."This is where Micah replies with the obligations from God's covenant (v8),..."and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?"

If the covenant is kept, all will be well...but humanity has a hard time with that. God gets mad again, and life goes on and on, full circle. The comfort for me is knowing that God loves us in spite of our inability to be faithful to his Word. So let us do the best we can with what we have.
